Yule: A Boardwalk Gods Short Story

Sapphire

I am a Twenty-two year old girl who has had a bad life. My mother took off in search of my father. Dropped me off to my grandmother at the age of five. I don’t even remember her.

My grandmother had me visit family on my mother’s side, but to be truthful I don’t like any of them. They’re not fans of mine because I’m half Italian and African American.

I finished school and really had no desire to go to college. I saw a help wanted ad for a Nanny. I called and got the interview with the head Ol’ Lady to the local MC.

During the interview the little girl’s father stood there with his eyes locked on me and growled the whole time. I want to know, does he want me or will he run away like my parents?

As a twin to an awesome sister things had been going well. As we got older and realized how controlling our father was, not so much. I took off to join the military.

I met a woman while in the military. We had a daughter together. My girl passed and I wasn’t allowed to go to her funeral.

The military finally let me go so I could raise my daughter. I had no choice but to return home and prospect for my father’s MC.

My mother decided to interview girls to be my daughter’s nanny. When the first girl showed up all I wanted to do was claim her. I had to walk away, my daughter’s needs came first. As time went on I knew I needed her. She was everything and so much more.
